DanishClass101 is an online Danish learning program. You learn with audio and video lessons. Each lesson is based around a dialogue. So, first you hear the dialogue, then the teachers explain everything…and at the end you understand it all.

Here’s an example of a lesson.

Greetings in Danish at DanishClass101. Click here to listen.

Below is the conversation that you hear in the lesson on the site. A basic dialog that beginners learn.

  • A: Hej.
    • Hi.
  • B: Hej.
    • Hi.
  • A: Hvordan går det?
    • How’s it going?
  • B: Det går godt. Hvad med dig?
    • It’s going well. What about you?
  • A: Det går også godt.
    • It’s also going well.

You go through all kinds of exercises – fill in the blanks, matching games, re-arranging games, listening exercises, and more – to help you learn words and phrases.

Plus, they also send you daily reminders to learn, which is good if you want to create a learning routine and “stick with it.”

YouTube

YouTube is a way to learn Danish online free, but I don’t recommend it. I’m posting it here because it is indeed free. But, the problem for me is distraction. On YouTube, you can start with a Danish lesson and then get derailed into watching a cat video. Then, you realize you spent 30 minutes looking at cats and funny accident compilations. And that you didn’t learn a lick of Danish.

But, that’s just my opinion. In the meantime, here are some good Danish channels:

How can you use it?

  • Keep the language at the top of your mind while getting entertained.
  • Learn words and phrases.
  • Passively learn in your downtime.

Podcasts

Podcasts are another casual way to learn Danish online free. Most people listen to podcasts while at work, while jogging, or their commute. It’s like radio. You just listen.

How can you use it?

  • Listen while you’re out or on the go.
  • Improve your listening skills.
  • Learn new words and phrases.
