Lesson Notes: You can read these or review while watching the video lesson above.

Nice to meet you.

  • Hajimemashite.
  • はじめまして。

I am Kaori/My name is Koari.

  • Watashi wa Kaori desu.
  • 私はかおりです。

Japanese Sentence Structure

Let’s take a look at the simplest Japanese sentence structure. The formula is as below with some examples:

A is B.

  • I am Jessi.
  • You are Naomi.
  • She is Jeniffer.

In Japanese it is:

AはBです。

  • Pronounced as: A wa B des.

So, if you want to say “I am Kaori,” you follow this structure. “A” will be “I” and “B” will be Kaori. And there you have it:

  • I am Kaori.
  • Watashi wa Kaori desu.
  • 私はかおりです。

You can also omit “Watashi wa” and say “Kaori desu.” It will still mean “I am Koari.” You can put in your own name here.

Now, can you introduce yourself with this? Leave a comment.

Now, names aside, you can use this for jobs. For example, if you want to say “I am a pilot,” again, follow the same formula. If “I” is “A” and “pilot” is “B,” then…

  • I am a pilot.
  • Watashi wa pairotto desu.
  • 私はパイロットです。

This lesson should’ve only taken you 3 minutes to watch and now you know:

  • How to say “Nice to meet you”
  • How to introduce yourself in Japanese
  • Basic Japanese Sentence Structure & Grammar
